Over 850 maps which, collectively, have been downloaded
hundreds of thousands of times |

We are happy to bring you a very unofficial collection of almost 4.0GB of third-party maps (on SIX CD's) for Total Annihilation, compiled and repackaged for the Macintosh version of TA by Dave and Bruce Payan.
All of the included maps have been downloaded from the Total Annihilation Map and Evaluation Center web site and repackaged into a Mac-friendly format over the last number of months.
We have "scoured" the best-of-the-best from the TAMEC site and provided them here. By selectively distributing this CD set, it is our intention to:
To find out about a particular map, visit (and visit often!) the TAMEC web site and read up on the review provided there. When you visit the TAMEC site, the maps are categorized into "worlds." We have adopted the same categories, using folders to group the selected maps together onto 6 different disks.
Once you find a map you like, drag it (the UFO file, typically) into the "Internet Maps & Units" folder, which is in your Total Annihilation folder. Some maps contain add-on folders that require certain additional files (eg. an "AI" or a tileset) to be present. These can be troublesome, though generally these HPI files can be placed *next to the TA application* (not in the "Internet Maps & Units folder). Also, to conserve disk space, common add-ons are usually placed on Disk 1 only with a (possibly unresolvable) alias on one of the other disks. The intention with the alias is to simply indicate that a specific add-on is needed.
If you find that your machine is taking a long time to load the map list in TA, remove some of the maps from your "Internet Maps & Units" folder -- it should speed up loading times.
Also, if you download a map at some point that is in TNT/OTA format, use the HPIPack program (on Disk 1) to convert it into UFO format to make it Mac-friendly.
We've also included a few choice TA resources and units here, many of which originated from the TAMEC site. We tip our hat to the Mac-friendliness which the TAMEC webmasters have demonstrated so far since the introduction of TA for Macintosh.
Due to copyright restrictions in place on the TAMEC web site, we can not include any of the TAMEC reviews on these maps. However, discussions with TAMEC have permitted us to include the TAMEC rating in a ClarisWorks/AppleWorks 5.0 database. The most recent version of this database is included on CD 6. The ratings are from the TAMEC site (GR = graphics, ME = mechanics, GA = gameplay, OV = overall rating).

CD 4 Update
While the original CD set from 1999-2000 contained 3 CD's, we've included CD 4 which includes many newer maps that have only been released recently and the following:
- Cavedog Maps -- there are three Cavedog maps (Abysmal Lake, Long Lakes, Starfish Isle) that came out just before Cavedog "folded". These have not been rated by TAMEC.
- Emperor Dracula Maps -- there are three Epic-class maps (Fortress Europe v1, Gulf of Doom v2, Hell's Fury) that Emperor Dracula has been kind enough to allow us to include here even though these have not originated from TAMEC (and are also unrated). These are being provided for a limited time. Please visit his web site for all the latest on his map collection.
- TAMEC2000 -- this is the latest version of the TAMEC feature file, which is included on CD 4. Please use it to replace your existing TAMECHeavy, TAMECLite or DRAX_FX files.
CD 5 & 6 Update
Now CD 5 and 6 are available which collectively include over 200 new maps plus some other goodies:
- New database -- the database on CD 6 has been updated to include all 879 maps (you can ignore the outdated databases on all previous CD's)
- HPIDump -- I've ported this latest utility from the PC side, and put it on CD 5 -- it supplements HPIPack (on CD 1), allowing you to look at the contents of an HPI/UFO file
- TAMEC2000b -- this is the latest version of the TAMEC feature file addition, which supplements TAMEC2000 on CD 4
- Rendered Maps -- we're including some newly-rendered maps that are all the rage and tend to be quite huge in size!

Consider this 6-CD set to be a gift. We are not requiring that you pay us anything. However, we would appreciate a suggested amount of $5USD per disk + $5USD for shipping ($35 USD or $55 CDN) to cover our costs (for CD's, shipping, and "wear & tear") or that you return the CD set to us (you may make your own single copy if you wish though it must be complete), along with reimbursement of our shipping costs. There is, however, no obligation. We work on the honor system.
NB: If you originally asked for the 3-CD or 4-CD set, please contact me -- I'd be happy to send out the remaining CDs to you. A kind thank you for those of you who have been very patiently waiting for their CD sets. Being newly married this year has put some things (like burning TA Map CD's) on the "back-burner" for a while.
Send an email to Bruce Payan for detailed shipping information. Please include your shipping address.
We are strictly against software "pirating". Please do not take offence if we "quiz" you in one way or another about your having a retail version of Total Annihilation for Macintosh. We will not ship our CD set to supporters of warez.
Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery (we only have a single burner). Please do not send cash. Personal cheque is best; we don't do credit cards. International shipping from Canada is not a problem.

Dave and Bruce Payan are brothers both with real lives and
full-time jobs, with a keen interest in the Macintosh version of
Total Annihilation. We have both worked hard to promote the game on
the Macintosh platform. We've both been avid users of TA to the point
of playing the Win95 version of TA under Virtual PC on a PowerMac
8500 for months previous to the Mac release (SLOOOOW!).
Dave ("Greybeard") has been an avid TA'er since before it's
introduction on the Macintosh platform. Recently, he has been the
chief writer for MacLedge's Total Annihilation
"Map
of the Week" review; Dave's 12-year old son takes great pride in
regularly and systematically annihilating his uncle.
Bruce ("zzyzy") is also an avid Total Annihilation fan, with a BSc
degree in computer science. He ported
HPIPack and
HPIDump over to the Macintosh, and is
currently working on a Macintosh map editor
for Total Annihilation (in whatever spare time he has). He's also
newly married, so Total Anniihilation has become a rather trivial
passion ;-)
